Budget Car Hire

Hiring a car while traveling about another city or country requires a thorough knowledge of all the basic guidelines. It is very important to understand the policies of the country or the state as well as the policies of the rental company before taking a car for rent. These can be obtained from any good car hire agency or a travel agency. You can hire Audis, Fiats, Mercedes, Peugeots, Seats, Volkswagens and many other models of cars. Some of the common categories are: mini, luxury, premium, standard, intermediate, minivans/MPVs, SUVs, compact and others. The prices, policies and conditions vary greatly according to the kind of car.

There are many things to be considered while hiring cars. The main aspect is the different kinds of fees, charges and rates applicable. Fees could include additional driver’s fees, advance booking requirements, airport concession recovery fees, drop off charges, tax, congestion charge, late charges/overtime, premium location fee, service fee, sales tax and other mandatory fees, value added tax, vehicle license fee, surcharges, weekend rates, weekly rates, time and mileage charges and so on. Sometimes, you may also avail certain discount rates, depending on the provider and other factors. Some rental companies offer monthly rates and even free mileage allowances if the car is hired for a certain period of time, such as from 28 days to 59 days.
Some dealers also offer cars for hire on discount prices. These can include concessions or reductions on certain conditions. Some others offer low prices on cars that have been hired for about a week or a month. Examples of such deals are: $175 a week for a compact car or just $220 a week for a premium vehicle. These are however, subject to certain terms and conditions like applicability for only US citizens, prices exclude tax, insurances and services, petrol, PAI, optional equipment, renters must meet age, driver and credit requirements and so on. Budget car hire deals can be weekly, weekend, monthly or last-minute.

Information about budget car rentals is available at the car rental agencies. Information can also be obtained from advertisements. The internet is also a very good source for locating a good budget car hire deal and even applying for the hire online.

Fingerprinting The Innocent - The Rise Of Biometrics

Not so long ago being compelled to give fingerprints meant only one thing - you were a suspect in some wrongdoing. Now, however, it seems you are obliged to give your fingerprints when doing something as innocent as hiring a car; and that's just the beginning as biometric identification enters more aspects of everyday life.

Anyone wishing to hire a car at Stansted airport is now compelled to give a fingerprint before collecting their cars, and whilst it's not yet a prerequisite of car rental at London's two major airports - Gatwick and Heathrow - at the smaller Essex airport it is compulsory, under order of the police! All customers' fingerprints are collected as part of a new scheme between the hire companies and the Essex Constabulary - taken so that if the car is subsequently used in a crime or simply stolen then the fingerprints will be collected from the hire firms and the criminal tracked down.

The scheme has been introduced in an attempt to combat a rise in criminals targeting car hire firms at airports. The crooks have recently taken to presenting forged passports, credit cards and driving licences and then, once they have taken possession of the hire vehicle drive it away, never to be seen again. By taking customers' fingerprints the police believe the process will act either as a deterrent to the criminals, or as the first clue in tracking them down.

Waving off protests that taking fingerprints is excessive when simply hiring a car, Detective Sergeant Vic Murphy, based at the CID unit at Stansted airport said: "It's not really intrusive. It's different - and people will need to adjust. This isn't big brother, it's about protecting people's identities. These prints will never see the light of day unless a crime is committed." He insists that the extra checking is already reducing fraud, and at least one of the hire firms taking part in the pilot is said to be keen to roll out the scheme to the rest of its airport locations.

Despite the increase in biometric identification around the country - and this scheme in particular - there are no plans as yet to introduce compulsory fingerprinting for car hire at Gatwick Airport, or indeed at Heathrow, but if the scheme at Stansted significantly reduces crime or leads to more successful convictions, then it may well follow, however vociferous the complaints of the civil liberties groups.

New Study Reveals The Top Driving And Car Hire Destinations For UK Holiday Makers

With independent travel increasing year on year, more destinations are accessible to exploration by British holiday makers. Car hire is an essential aspect of independent travel for many, with 1 in 5 (9.3 million) British holiday makers hiring a car to venture into their chosen location. The recently published World Driving Survey details the habits and perceptions of British drivers abroad; highlighting the best and worst of the holiday driving experience at locations throughout the world.
The survey shows that in general, Northern Europe and North America are seen as the safest and most enjoyable car hire and driving experiences. Perhaps unsurprisingly, France is the most visited destination for UK drivers closely followed by Spain and the USA. For driving experience, North America tops the list of preferences with the USA and Canada taking first and second positions respectively.
The World Driving Survey also provides an insight into the perception of British drivers abroad and informs those who are considering car hire as part of their holiday what to expect from their chosen destination. Existing resources such as the advice available from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office can be considered quite general and the new study provides perceptions and opinions directly from visitors themselves on what to expect of the driving culture of your chosen destination.
With driving abroad becoming increasingly popular with UK holiday makers and the overall trend for independent holidays continuing to grow, it is interesting to view the popularity, preferences and perceptions of British drivers abroad in order to inform and educate holiday drivers of what to expect when their plane lands and doors to the car rental lot open!

Car Insurance Policy Exclusion Clauses - Loss Of Use

Let's now consider the "loss of use" exclusion clause in your car insurance document. It describes what alternative transport your insurer will offer to you if your own vehicle is inoperative because of accident or theft. In the majority of cases the answer is in the negative!
Some insurance companies have a team of retained repairers who will give you a courtesy car if one should be available. A few insurance companies have a car hire scheme added to their policy whereby they will arrange a car for you from their chosen car hire partner. However, most insurers do not have either of these options.

Most insurance companies offer a hire car option to their comprehensive policies. The option is expensive and the cover offered is rather limited. You should decide if you find it essential that you require it. It is not an essential 'add on' for everybody. Answer these questions:
If my car was off the road would it be possible for me to :- get to work (by cycle, walk, bus, train)?- get the children/grandchildren to school?- go shopping- go on holiday?- follow my sports, social interests, hobbies etc?

If you could manage without a car for a while, you don't really need to buy this extra cover. If you can't then you should check that you have this cover.
Bear in mind, if your car is stolen or an accident is your fault, you will not be able to claim any car hire costs from another person. You can't use a 'credit hire' firm. You can't rely upon the loan of a replacement car from the garage. So this extra cover becomes valuable to you.
Similarly, if you do not wish to use your insurance company's recommended repairer, or your car has been written off, your car hire extra cover should save the day. Let us look at what you should hope to see in an average policy.

You may only hire a car if yours is off the road for at least two days, but the maximum period of hire is fourteen days. If you need it for more than this you will have to pay the additional cost to the car hire firm. There's been many an argument between vehicle owner, insurer and repairer when repairs have overrun often down to non-availability of parts and no party wants to pay the extra car rental costs.

You can't have a hire car for a windscreen or glass only claim.
There is normally a maximum distance that the hire company will deliver a rental car so if you live away from the major cities and the hire firm is a fair few miles away from you, be prepared for an extra charge if you require them to deliver it to you. Can you get to the local depot yourself?

Your own car insurance policy will cover the hire car for comprehensive benefits. That helps your insurer to keep down the price of the hire car cover but if you are involved in an accident whilst using the rental car, the insurance claim will be on your policy.

The car can only be hired from the date your car goes in for repair if it is still legal and safe to drive your vehicle. If your vehicle is not safe to be driven you can have the car from the date of the accident.

Policies could well impose a maximum hire period, such as fourteen days. If your car is restored prior to this date, you have to return the hire car as soon as you have your car back.
The rental car supplied will almost certainly be a small, manual gearbox model no more than a couple of years old. If you need something a bit bigger you might have to pay extra. If you require an automatic they will try to locate one for you within the vehicle groups specified in the cover. The hire car will normally come supplied with a full tank of fuel. You must return it with a full tank. If you don't you will be billed by the hire firm for a fill up. And they charge a very high price per liter!

Some hire firms will want to collect your credit card number, if you have one, insuring against the possibility of needing to fill up your car or having to repair any bumps or scratches that happen whilst you are using it.

Car Hire in Newmarket

There’s nothing worse than holidaying somewhere and not being able to get around whilst you are there. Public transport in and around Newmarket is generally good but if you really want to make the most of your holiday and see the surrounding beauty of the fens you should thing about hiring a car.
Thankfully car hire in Newmarket is relatively straightforward. There is only one hire company in the immediate area and they have been providing the local community and tourists alike with quality car hire for over 30 years.
Newmarket Car and Van Hire is situated on the outskirts of town towards the village of Exning. They have a good range of cars ranging from nippy city cars to large Bedford vans if you are planning a longer trip or relocating. They offer a friendly and efficient service and will be more than happy ot advise you if you are not sure what you need.
Once you have sorted out your car hire in Newmarket there are a number of places you can visit. The historic city of Cambridge is just 20 mins down the A14. Or you can go the opposite way and head to the coast towards Hunstanton. Going this way you could do a stop off at beautiful Bury St Edmunds and visit the cathedral which is about 15 minutes down the A14 in the opposite direction to Cambridge.
Alternatively you can simply meander around many of the winding country roads and enjoy a pub lunch in one of the fantastic village pubs surrounding Newmarket, such as the Three Blackbirds in Fen Ditton.
Don’t forget that in the UK we drive on the left hand side and we would generally recommend keeping your drivers license on you at all times. Car crime is rare compared to the inner cities but we would still advise that you keep valuables locked in the boot and out of sight as opportunist thieves do operate, particularly at some of the larger tourist attractions.

Car Hire - Insurance Coverage For Rentals In The UK - Guidance

One of the most common questions that are asked in relation to car hire is about insurance coverage. Many prospective car hire customers, particularly those residing outside the UK, have difficulty understanding the extent of the coverage provided.

Car hire companies are required by law to ensure that vehicles on the road have insurance coverage for third party risk. This would cover the driver and the car rental company for the eventuality that damage is caused to other property or injury is caused to another person not connected with the car. This is normally built into the insurance cover provided by the car rental company and is not purchased separately by the customer.

The car rental company will normally, in addition, provide cover for damage to the rental car in the event of an accident. This is normally referred to as collision damage waiver. If the customer has an accident whilst in possession of the car, the car rental company’s insurance will cover the cover the customer. However there is an exception.

Car rental companies generally speaking have an insurance excess with their collision damage waiver. The excess amount can vary depending on the car rental company and the car being hired, but generally speaking the average amount is likely to be about GBP 600.00. This means in effect, if the rental car is damaged, the customer will be expected to pay the cost of the damage repair up to a maximum of the excess amount.

On arrival at the rental location, car rental staff will normally make you aware their excess amount. You may find that you will be offered a damage waiver which reduces your liability in respect of the excess to a lower amount. The cost of this waiver can vary with the company and with the level you wish to reduce the excess to. For example you could reduce to GBP 200.00 or to zero.

If you decide not to purchase the waiver, and you are paying by credit card, the rental company will normally “authorise” for the amount of the excess and the rental cost. This means that the total amount is “frozen” on your credit card. When you return the car undamaged the excess amount is cancelled on your credit card and you are charged for the excess amount.
If the card is returned damaged, a member of staff will assess the cost of the damage repair and charge your card up to the maximum amount of the excess on top of your car hire cost.
If you are paying by debit card you usually do not have a facility to “authorise” the excess amount on the card and the amount has to be deducted at time of collection and added back to the card at the end of the rental, Depending on your card company, there could be a delay in that money going back on to your card.

Car Hire Companies at Madrid Airport

If you are travelling through Madrid Airport and want to hire a car, there are several rental car agencies operating in and around Madrid Barajas. They are are Avis, Europcar, Hertz and National Atesa and if you shop around you can obtain some excellent deals as car hire is a very competitive business in Spain. To give you some indication of likely costs: a Peugeot 206 or similar hired for seven days during the last week in September (Saturday to Saturday) collected from and returned to Madrid Barajas Airport will cost around £115 (any quotation should include collision damage waiver, theft protection, third party liability, VAT, unlimited mileage and airport fees). If you rent a car beforehand you will often secure a better deal and save time on arrival as most of the paperwork will have been completed and you can be assured that a vehicle of your choice will be waiting for you. If you contact the local car hire firms you can obtain a free online quote to make sure you get the best hire car to suit your needs.

If you are worried about driving in Spain, getting to and from Madrid Airport is fairly straightforward as there are good road links with the main access and ring roads of the city which are well signposted. You can get to the airport in various ways: from the city centre and M-30 on the A-2 or N-11 (road to Barcelona) take the exit towards the airport at kilometre 12 or exits 3 and 9 from the M-40 which connect with the M-11 and N-100 respectively which lead directly to the airport.

In cities like Madrid parking in resident only areas is allowed for a maximum of 90 minutes from 8.00 to 21.00 and is usually clearly identified by a blue line on the street. Do not leave anything of value in your hire car and put anything you do have to leave out of sight. Parking garages are a safer alternative than the street but check the prices before you enter. Do not park your rent a car within five metres of intersections or entrances to public buildings.

You Don't Need a Time Machine to Travel Back in Time!

Its really good fun to observe the unspoilt Scottish countryside behind the wheel of a pedigree vintage sports car. Only a few people can have the privilege of owning one of these lovely cars, but just about anyone can hire one.

I have often thought about buying a pre-war convertible sports car and travelled to the Scottish borders where I managed to hire the sweetest little MG J2 as a treat for myself and a surprise for my wife, and surprised she was! the smile never left her lips as we took to the Scottish hills.
Built in 1933 the MG immediately took us back to the romance of the early days of motoring. I grew up with tales from my Father, stories of everyday driving that was always a pleasure. The car was a part of the family, its own character and idiosyncrasies. Motorist of these early days would undertake adventurous journeys, they weren't put off by a tricky clutch or feeling a few bumps in the road and my trip up to wanlockhead, Scotlands highest village, took us back to those pioneering days where there were only a handfull of cars on the road. If you were kind to the car then it was kind to you.

It is possible to travel back in time and enjoy the adventure that motoring was all about. Even the best modern car does not have the soul of this MG, yes they can have problems, but that's the beauty of just hiring one, all the fun and none of the responsibility.

Car Hire - The American Rise

Travel related costs are expected to increase above the usual inflationary rise in America during 2008. This will potentially mean flights to and from the country and travel services such as car hire could increase by an average of 4% whereas the predicted inflationary increase is expected to fall at around 2.3%.
High oil prices mean that many travel related industries could be hit by an increase next year. The cost of air fares will most probably increase to factor this in and with already tight restrictions on the number of seats for sale things may get worse.
Many UK tourists will consider car hire during their holiday in America and it is definitely recommended if you want to see the sights and make the most out of your time - wherever you intend to stay.
In a report released by American Express the potential rise on the cost of car rental was listed as 4% although there has been some differing in opinion over this figure. The National Business Travel association of America consider 5-7% to be perhaps a more accurate figure.
So how does this affect you - the British tourist, well for starters you will find that arranging car hire upon arrival at the airport or within you resort could be between 4-7% more costly as a result.
The cost to fill up you tank will of course become more expensive with the expected and continuing rise on the base price of oil.
There are some ways you can cut the cost of your car hire this year - for starters pre-booking can save you from having to pay over inflated Airport hire car rates. You should also consider making use of one of the many travel related comparison sites. You will usually find they compare car rentals and allow you to choose from a variety of companies and packages to suit your needs and hopefully save you some money in the long run.
car hire is an integral part of many a family holiday. If you plan to arrange car rental on arrival be aware of extra charges you may face during 2008.
Consider using an internet based comparison facility to make the process of finding car rentals companies that little bit easier.

Cambridge Car Hire

There’s nothing worse than holidaying somewhere and not being able to get around whilst you are there. Public transport in and around Cambridge is generally good but if you really want to make the most of your holiday and visit some of the surrounding towns and cities in your own time you should thing about hiring a car.

Thankfully Cambridge car hire is relatively straightforward. You will find all the big name hire companies such as Enterprise Rent a car, Budget and Thrifty all offering cut price deals and weekend specials. Most of the branches will deliver to your hotel if you can’t get out to the branch to pick it up.

Once you have sorted out your Cambridge car hire there are a number of places you can visit. The famous horse racing town of Newmarket is just 20 minutes down the A14. Or you can go the opposite way and head towards the historical cities of Huntingdon or Peterborough.
Alternatively you can simply meander around many of the winding country roads and enjoy a pub lunch in one of the fantastic village pubs surrounding Cambridge, such as Milton, Histon or Cherry Hinton.

Be A Car Owner With Car Loans

With so many lenders in the market offering you lucrative deals, it has become as easy as ever to finance a car. If you shop around and devote some time to market research, you are very much likely to get a cheap car loan deal. So, once you have decided to purchase a car on instalment basis, opt for car loans.

As far as cost effective measures are concerned, people should avoid showroom car finance. It is generally seen that personal loans and car loans provide a good opportunity for low interest borrowings. People spend too much time and effort in choosing a car but when it comes to choosing a finance deal, they find themselves short of ideas. It is because of lack of market research. Very often people visit car showrooms and fall for the selling tactics of car personnel there. A well informed and prudent borrower would, however, be able to see behind the veil and would take the right decision.

There is a basic difference between hire purchase schemes, as are floated in the market for purchasing a car, and car loans. Although, both provide you a means to acquire a car on instalment basis, the difference is still a striking one. In case of hire purchase agreement, you get car on instalment basis but the car still remains the property of the lender. You get full rights only when you pay all the instalments. In case of personal loans or car loans, the ownership rights passes to you but you are liable to repay the instalments to your lender.
Besides, car loans can be secured or unsecured. If you have some property to pledge as collateral, then you are eligible to get secured car loans. Otherwise, you can apply for unsecured car loans.

Rental Cars in Ireland

There are several different transportation options in Ireland, but one of the most popular with locals and tourists alike is that of driving. Ireland’s roads are numerous and, for the large part, well-kept. Tourists often choose, on arriving in Ireland, to hire a car for the duration of their stay so they can see the Emerald Isle on their own schedule and in their own time. Of course, it is also possible to hire a driver to go with the car, but this is beyond the budget of the average tourist, and with a map in hand and a rental car to take you there, there is really no reason that you should not be able to find where you want to go all by yourself.

It is quite easy to obtain a hired car in Ireland. Airports often host booths for multiple car hire companies, so in advance to making your journey, you may want to compare prices and services offered by each car company. You will also want to take a close look at the individual regulations of each car hire company, as most have slightly varied policies on a number of topics.
For example, if you are a visitor from overseas but do not have an international driver’s licence, some rental companies may not rent to you. Some, however, will accept a valid licence from your home country, and some will accept licenses only from select countries (those with mandatory road tests, for example) so depending on your circumstances, you may be considered ineligible. Similarly, many companies will not rent to persons under twenty-three years of age, and most of those who do will charge a security deposit. It is particularly difficult to rent a car if you are under twenty-one years of age, so be sure to call ahead to verify these details prior to arrival.

Freedom With a Malaga Car Hire

If you want to have the freedom of touring Spain on your own schedule, you may want to consider a Malaga Car Hire. By hiring a car you are not forced to be a slave to the public transportation schedules or problems, you can decide when you want to see things, for how long, and travel at your own pace.

A car hire can be found at the Malaga airport, which is about six kilometers west of the city. There are two ways to get your hire. First you can just pick up a car at the airport. Many companies have conveniently located shops at the airport. Others that are based in the city will pick you up from the airport, take you to your car, and shuttle you back to the airport when you complete your stay.

Which Malaga Car Hire to Choose
There are a number of car hire companies in the Costa del Sol area to choose from, so what should you consider as you try to pick just one? First, you can get a list of car hire companies by going online and conducting a search, or speaking to a travel agent. Online you have a better chance of being able to compare prices to get the best deal on a rental car.
While all companies will say they have the lowest price, you need to look a little more closely at the prices they are offering. Sometimes there are a number of extra charges that will be tacked on to that extra-low price, actually making it less of a deal than you could have gotten in another location.

If you are looking for convenience in your car hire, you may want to pick up the car at the airport. It is much easier to get off your plane, get a car, and be on your way. It will also save you precious time by not having to wait for the car company to shuttle you from the airport to their location and back again.
If you are traveling with any small children, you need to let the car company know this when you are booking the car. In Spain, the law requires all children be in a car seat. Make sure they know you need to reserve a car seat for that child.

Affordable Malaga Car Hire
The earlier you book, the better the price. This holds true in car bookings as well as many other areas of your travel. By booking early you will not only get a good rate, but also have a wider selection of cars to pick from to use on your trip.

What do you really need? You should consider the number of people in your party who will need to use the car as well as any comfort considerations that are important to your traveling party as you book your vehicle. For a larger number of people, you need to get a larger vehicle that can hold everyone comfortably. But for just one or two people, consider an economy car, which will be more affordable than the larger luxury vehicles. It will also save on the cost of fuel.

Reasons To Use a Car Hire Service

There are several good reasons why you may need to engage the services of a car hire company. Here are some examples of scenarios in which renting from a car hire agency can be an excellent idea.

One of the most frequent reasons for engaging a car hire service is for business travel. Many persons will fly into a city to conduct business and rent a vehicle to get around while in the city. This can take two forms. First, the traveler may choose to simply rent a vehicle that he or she will drive. Second, the traveler may prefer to engage both a car and a driver for the duration of the stay in the city. The latter option can be a great choice, assuming that one is not familiar with the city and does not have a lot of spare time to find his or her way around. While renting a car and a driver from a car hire service may be more expensive than simply engaging a vehicle, it can more than pay for itself in saving time and cutting back on frustration as one goes around town.

Second, many people will choose to engage a car hire service when taking a weekend trip. For some people, this is a necessity, since the vehicle they own may not be in shape to make a long trip. Other people may simply not want to put the wear and tear on their own vehicles. In cases like those, renting from a car hire service makes perfect sense.

As a bonus, there is usually a roadside assistance clause in the rental contract that means you will be able to get a replacement car in the event there are any serious problems with the rental during the trip. A car hire service takes care of all the maintenance and upkeep on their vehicles, so you don't have to be surprised by a failed engine, or some problem with the suspension or any of the many other things that can go wrong with a vehicle while on a long trip. This will mean that you do not have to be worry about being stranded in some small town along the Interstate, having to shell out big bucks in order to get back on the road again. If trouble develops, it is simply a matter of calling the car hire company, reporting the issue and waiting a few hours while they get a replacement vehicle to you. Someone else will handle all the headaches that come with car trouble while you continue on your way.

Most Consumers Do Not Trust Car Washes - Learn The Secrets That Cause Suspicion

For over 27-years I worked in the car wash industry and I learned some disturbing little dirty secrets. For instance, all those Exposes on the Carwashing Industry on "Sixty Minutes" were spot on. In fact, most consumers do not trust car washes, because they attempt to trick them into buying a more expensive car wash then they actually need. But the biggest reason folks do not trust car washes, will shock you.

The top reasons people do not trust car washes is because they have been an industry known to hire illegal aliens, have disreputable employees who steal stuff out of the car and the customers are in fear of having their cars damaged. Damaged Cars? Yes, this was the number 3 reason people do not trust carwashes and it is well within the top ten and even top five reasons people do not trust car washes as far as they can throw them.

Think of the reasons that you do not like car washes, perhaps you too are fearful of an illegal alien stealing something out of your car or of the car wash service writer up-selling you to a car wash "The Works" that you really do not need? If so you are not alone.

The car wash industry suffers from all these tactics and failure to police its employees. Of course, not all car washes are bad apples, just like not ALL the employees they hire are druggies or illegal aliens. So, just be really careful out there and try not to be taken to the cleaners.
