Just a few miles north of downtown Orlando in Winter Park, FL, the Winter Park Fish Company is far from the tourist crowds, with enough fresh seafood to make customers feel as if they are spending a day on the Florida coast. Whether you want to have your fish prepared for you on site or prefer to take home fresh seafood and serve it up in your own home, the Winter Park Fish Company is not your ordinary seafood restaurant.
On any given day, customers of the Winter Park Fish Company can purchase Black Grouper, Ahi Tuna, Red Snapper, Key West Pink Shrimp and two kinds of Salmon in the fresh fish case. Customers place their order with the cashier before taking a seat and there is indoor and outdoor dining available. The dining atmosphere us casual and cozy, and the only thing missing is the scent of salty air. Some of the restaurant's specialties include seafood croissants stuffed with crab, shrimp and spinach. The Lobster Rolls have been praised by Orlando Magazine, and no Florida seafood experience would be complete without a Grouper Sandwich.
For seafood lovers who are willing to go off the beaten path for fresh fish will find what they are looking for at the Winter Park Fish Company.

Open Wide! Proud Parents Feed Their Chick at SeaWorld Orlando

Until recently, the population of tawny frogmouths in North American zoos was facing extinction -- and breeding programs were largely unsuccessful. SeaWorld worked with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to develop a program to sustain the species' growth.
SeaWorld aviculturists have bred an unprecedented 24 chicks over the past 10 years. Typically as a part of this program, chicks are hand-reared by aviculturists to ensure they receive the best care during their first few fragile weeks. Through years of research, SeaWorld has made it possible for this chick to be raised by its parents.
Tawny frogmouths are native to the forested savannas and open woodlands of Australia. When fully grown, the insect-eating birds will be between 9 and 21 inches tall. To discover SeaWorld Vacation Packages

I Castelli Di Cannero

On the very first day that I was ever in Stresa, Giuseppe and I drove to Switzerland. Maybe you're wondering why... but that's another story. So there we were, driving towards Locarno, Switzerland, on the road that runs along Lago Maggiore. At one point Giuseppe pulled the car over to the side of the road and stopped, to show me a house that he liked. The house was lower than where we were standing on the road, and so we were looking over it, to the lake beyond. The house was lovely to be sure, a world apart on its piece of land on the edge of the lake. But it was the view that the house had, of the lake, that captured me. Were those castles?
Castles... or more precisely ruins of castles, were floating on two small islands in the lake, really only a stone's throw from this house. Giuseppe was nonchalant... here on Lago Maggiore it could easily happen to have a view of castles from your house apparently. Remember, it was only my first day on the lake... I didn't know yet about the magic in all its corners.
So what were these castles? Here's a bit of their story, interspersed with some stunning photographs of them.

They're called i Castelli di Cannero, the Castles of Cannero, due to their location only a short distance from the shores of the lake in the town of Cannero. And they are the remains of the Rocca Vitaliana, a fortress constructed between 1519 and 1521 by Ludovico Borromeo, who named them Vitaliano in honor of his illustrious grandfather, Vitaliano Borromeo. But those ruins, they were built on the top of other preexisting ruins. The earliest fortifications on the islands date to the 12th century. And in the early 1400s the five Mazzarditi brothers used the islands as their headquarters during their cruel reign. They had captured the village of Cannobio, and this began an era of domination, violence and raids that the Mazzarditi inflicted on all the people living in the coastal villages and towns. The Mazzarditi reign of terror ended when the Visconti lay seige to the fortress, forcing the Mazzarditi to surrender by leaving them to starve on the islands. Their buildings fell into ruin and were distroyed, so much so that not even a trace remains of them today.

But the Rocca Vitaliano, it was a defense used by the Borromeos against the Swiss raids in this eastern region of Lago Maggiore. The principal part of the fortress, that being the part more to the east, is still a massive wall of stone, rising directly from the surface of the water, following the irregular course of the rocks; and the towers also still remain partially intact.

On the smaller island however, there remains now only one lone tower, cut off from the others, and some remnants of wall that continue to slowly crumble.

The Castelli di Cannero are visible from many places along the waterfront, and many of the ferries that traverse that part of the lake will go as close to them as possible for photos and gazing. They are now, at the time of this writing, undergoing a renovation of sorts by the Borromeo family, possibly for touristic purposes, a subject somewhat controversial, as the renovation was fought against by certain environmental groups. But when I saw them on that first day, unrenovated and unanticipated in the lake, they became for me instantly one of the symbols of the magical nature of this beautiful and strange place.

What People Say About Stresa : Leonardo Da Vinci

I have already seen a great variety of atmospheric effects. And lately over Milan towards Lago Maggiore I saw a cloud in the form of an immense mountain full of rifts of glowing light, because the rays of the sun, which was already close to the horizon and red, tinged the cloud with its own hue. And this cloud attracted to it all the little clouds that were near while the large one did not move from its place; thus it retained on its summit the reflection of the sunlight till an hour and a half after sunset, so immensely large was it; and about two hours after sunset such a violent wind arose, that it was really tremendous and unheard of.
-- Leonardo Da Vinci, The Notebooks, approx. 1500.
Was he speaking perhaps of a sky like this one?

Brits Flock to New York, Orlando and Bangkok this Summer
With the summer shaping up, cheap flights comparison site Skyscanner looks ahead to see which are set to be the most popular destinations with U.K. travelers. Spanish hotspots Alicante, Malaga and Palma hold on to the top three places; Portugal's Faro and Dalaman in Turkey both remained solid at 4th and 5th; whilst Tenerife (6th) and Ibiza (7th) both moved up a place.
Perhaps marking the move out of recession, all three new entries to the top ten are long-haul destinations. New York entered at 8th while Orlando, home to Universal's highly anticipated Harry Potter World, took the 9th spot. Despite political unrest in Thailand, flights to Bangkok are still very popular with British tourists, with the city entering in 10th place, the only Asian destination in the top ten.
Barry Smith, Skyscanner Co-founder commented: "Last summer there were no long haul destinations in the top ten, and Spain took seven of the top ten places. This summer, it looks like budgets are a little bigger with more people taking flights to New York, Orlando and Bangkok. So far the ash doesn't seem to be putting people off from traveling further afield."

Disney's Star Tours closing for renovations
Disney World is planning another "reimagining" of a popular attraction, this time Disney is closing down the Star Tours simulator ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios by the end of the summer--it is tentatively scheduled to close on September 8--with plans to reopen the ride with new special effects sometime in 2011.
Star Tours opened in 1989 at Disney's Hollywood Studios (at the time the park was known as Disney-MGM Studios). George Lucas, director of the Star Wars films, actually assisted in the development of the ride, which simulates a flight to the planet of Endor. Star Tours can also be found at Disneyland in California and the international Disney parks, and will also be closing down for renovations.
The updated ride system will consist of a High Definition, Disney Real-D 3D screen, an improved motion simulator as well as several other special effects. Star Wars fans will more than likely see more similarities to the newer Star Wars films (episodes 1 - 3) as well.

SeaWorld cares for 303rd turtle this year
Caring for SeaWorld’s 303rd endangered turtle patient this year is no small task for park aquarists. The recently rescued reptile is a three-foot, 270-pound loggerhead, found in the waters of San Carlos Bay near Ft. Meyers, Fla. on May 6.
The large male was seen floating to one side for several days. Emaciated and covered in barnacles, his condition was most likely caused by ingesting a foreign object.
Immediately upon his arrival at SeaWorld’s Animal Rehabilitation Center, aquarists began removing the barnacles and treating him with antibiotics. Veterinarians performed x-rays in search of internal injuries. The animal has begun to eat on his own as the Animal Rescue Team hopes to eventually return him back to San Carlos Bay.
SeaWorld is a global leader in the rescue and rehabilitation of endangered se turtles. This year the park has rescued 304 turtles and released 245. Now through August is loggerhead sea turtle nesting period, a critical time period for the preservation of this species. Discover SeaWorld Vacations

Best Places To Rent A Car in Greece This Summer
Greece, the centre of ancient history and some of the most famous legends in the world is now at the centre of an exciting launch by Izzirent. A website dedicated to car rental users in Greece is now available. Izzirent will enable visitors and business travellers to make their Greece car hire arrangements online and pick up their car hire at Athens Airport from one of the companies working with Izzirent in Greece.
Located in the Aegean Sea, Greece is a leading holiday destination and a prominent historical culture with many world heritage sites. The ancient Greek legends will come to life in this beautiful country.
“We are really pleased to bring our legendary car rental website service to Greece,” said Destinations Manager Damijan Milvojevic, “and with Greece being such a popular tourist destination, picking up a rental car at one of the airports gives clients more choice I how they spend their holiday getting to know the country.”
Travel Greece and feel the history of the ancient cultures in the ruins. Athens with the iconic Acropolis and National Museum is a great place to start. The Plaka is the perfect place to find excellent local Greek cuisine and maybe a little dancing. Visitors can collect their rental car in Athens from any car hire company working with Izzirent.com and drive to Delphi and the ancient site of the oracle. Thessaloniki Airport is an alternative to plan a journey from, particularly using car hire services to get into the dramatic mountain scenery and Mount Olympus, home of the Gods. Drive further north and see the sky monasteries of Meteoro, and perhaps take a walk through some of the trails in the Pindos Mountains. Winter visitors will find ski resorts with a variety of runs and perhaps the coastline mild enough for a quick swim.
Many visitors to Greece visit the many islands in the Aegean. Passengers arriving on the popular island of Rhodes can collect a car hire at Rhodes airport using online booking and start exploring the area. One of the Ancient Wonders of the World, the Colossus, is located in Rhodes. A leisurely trip around the harbour and the sandy beaches is popular with many visitors. Crete is one of the largest of the Greek Islands and home to the legendary Minotaur. A car hire on Crete can be collected from the car hire desk at Heraklion Airport and visitors will find a host of activities from beautiful beaches to the famous Samaria Gorge. Greece has much to offer visitors and is a popular holiday destination.

Captain EO returns to Epcot this summer
The King of Pop might be gone but he is not forgotten, the Michael Jackson 4D experience Captain EO is returning to Epcot on July 2 for a limited engagement. Captain EO is replacing—for the time being at least—the Honey I Shrunk the Audience attraction, which has already been shut down for renovations.
The original Captain EO show was at Epcot from 1986-1994, when Michael Jackson was at the peak of his popularity. The 17-minute sci-fi adventure film followed Captain EO’s journey to turn a colorless planet into a world of happiness with the power of music (not to mention, expertly choreographed dancing).
Captain EO is also returning to other Disney parks around the world this year. It has already reopened at Disneyland in California (there is even a Caption Eo @ Disneyland Facebook page for diehard fans) and is scheduled to open at Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris this summer.

Best Deal on Renting a Truck
I am in the New York/New Jersey area. I want to rent a cargo van for 1 day and use it for approx 250 - 300 miles. What's the best deal I could get?
Unfortunately, there's no quick and simple answer.
The availability and price of a cargo van rental will truly depend on the city and location of pickup, the city and location of drop off, the car type, the date or time of year, the length of the rental and, of course, the rental company itself.
I can't give you any ideas of pricing; even if I had all the information, by the time I checked prices and emailed you back, then you went to go and get that price quote, the prices would probably have already changed.
You will have to select a few rental companies (Budget Truck Rental, Ryder, Uhaul, etc) and research each individually for your specific cities, dates and times to find out if the rental that you're looking for will be available. You can then compare prices to find the best deal. You can research this type of rental on most truck rental company websites directly.
Booking in advance is key to availability when it comes to renting a truck. Keep in mind that the majority of truck rentals (and moves) occur at the end or beginning of the month and weekends are always booked first!
Sorry I couldn't be of more help; I hope you find the rental that you're looking for.

Summer Calendar Is Filling Up With Events

And the best news of all is ... they are all FREE!
I've been adding quite a few summer events to the blog calendar. So far all are annual events that have been taking place for many summers now in Stresa. Many are events that recur several times throughout the season. Many are not well known to the average tourist unless you are lucky enough to stumble onto them. And all of these are essentially free of cost. Take a look to see what's happening when you'll be here. When choosing where to have your evening aperitivo, or where to take your stroll, combining it with one of these free performances may really enhance your trip.
Here's a summary of some of the recently added events:
Jazz at Caffe Bar Verbanella: Jazz every Thursday evening in Willy's Cocktail Bar in Verbanella. A different group performs each week.
Anteprima for the Ascona Jazz Festival: This is only one evening, but what an evening... the preview performance of the Ascona Jazz Festival. Six bands in different locations throughout Stresa. Check the calendar for the list of performers.
Anteprima for the Ascona Jazz Festival: This is only one evening, but what an evening... the preview performance of the Ascona Jazz Festival. Six bands in different locations throughout Stresa. Check the calendar for the list of performers.
12th Edition World Championship of Fireworks: From July 24 through August 22, seven special fireworks exhibitions in different locations in the area. Read the post and see the schedule here.
21st annual Festival Internazionali dell'Associazione Musicale Dino Ciani: Many, many free musical performances, most at the Regina Palace Hotel, all free. The entire schedule can be seen here.
XX Edition International Organ Festival: Already begun and continuing through June 12, a series of free performances on the historic organ inside la chiesa Parracchiale SS Ambrogio e Theodulo, Stresa's main church, featuring some of the best organists in the world. Read the post and see the schedule here.

This list is by no means complete. New events are added all the time, and this list does not include the Stresa Music Festival or other performances which require purchasing a ticket. I hope however, it gives you some options you may not have known about before.

Gas Prices Expected to Drop
With the price of crude oil dropping for the second time this month, expect retail gasoline prices to be lower this week, AAA said, adding that the downward trend should continue with the possibility of lower prices by Memorial Day weekend.
Crude oil closed Friday at $71.61 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Motorists may be very happy this Memorial Day weekend since retail gasoline prices will most likely be lower than expected," said Jessica Brady, manager of AAA public relations. "The economic uncertainty in Europe coupled with a strong U.S. dollar and ample supply of crude equal a formula that lowers both the price of crude oil and retail gasoline."
The national average price of unleaded regular gasoline is $2.87 per gallon. Florida's average price is $2.86 per gallon, both reflecting a four-cent decrease from last week.
In Orlando, a gallon of self-serve regular currently is $2.79, down 6 cents from a week ago.

News Bites -- Little Bits Of News From Stresa
Tourist News and Accolades for Stresa, the Pearl of Lago Maggiore

The recent rains may have delayed things a bit but now it looks like construction is back on track... for the long tobaggan track being built atop Mt. Mottarone. Weather permitting from this point on, the new summer attraction should be open to the public by the beginning of July. It is said that the experience will be like flying over the lake...
Entente Florale
Last year Stresa was chosen as the most beautiful floral city in Italy, in the category of cities with a population of less than 20,000. And now, on June 16, judges will revisit Stresa. This time, Stresa will be judged against the other winning small cities in Europe, cities such as Emly, Ireland, Beauvais, France, and Havirov in the Czech Republic for the grand award of the most beautiful floral city in all of Europe. The contest, by the way, is not judged on public spaces but on private ones. Therefore, this means they will be looking at the balconies, the gardens of private residences, the overall beauty created by Stresa's own citizens around their own homes. This award is quite an honor, no matter what happens after the judges visit in June.
Lago Maggiore Among Top Twenty Destinations in Italy
Readers of TripAdvisor have decided, and they have included Lago Maggiore among the top twenty destinations in Italy, placing it at number 19. Furthermore, they have voted that Isola Bella, the Parco Villa Pallavicino, and the cablecar ride to the top of Mt. Mottarone are among the sights in Stresa not to be missed. We are in total agreement... and we expect Stresa and Lago Maggiore to continue their climb up this chart.

Florida's largest independent hotel chain
Rosen Hotels & Resorts, Florida's largest independent hotel chain with seven properties totaling 6300 guest rooms and suites in Orlando, has just announced that it will rebrand three of its four leisure hotels as of Oct. 1, 2010.
The hotel group recently completed a $30 million room and property renovation on all four leisure hotels and would like to reflect this upgraded quality and increased value in its hotel brands. This fall, the Quality Inn Plaza and the Rodeway Inn International will become Rosen Inns and the Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista will become a Clarion. Rosen Hotels & Resorts also owns three award-winning Orlando convention properties: Rosen Plaza, Rosen Centre and Rosen Shingle Creek.
"For the last 36 years, Rosen Hotels & Resorts has built a reputation for superior quality and service in the hospitality industry, so we felt it made sense to draw upon the Rosen name in marketing our leisure properties as we have successfully done in promoting our convention properties," said Harris Rosen, President and COO of Rosen Hotels & Resorts. "We feel fortunate to have the long-time support of loyal clients and industry partners, and we want our supporters to know that these name changes signify our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional service to the leisure traveler with competitive rates, but now with even more value, so that we may continue to exceed their expectations."
Quality Inn Plaza, soon to be called Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando, recently earned the AAA Three Diamond Award, and Rosen expects that the other three leisure properties will soon earn this designation as well. The hotel, which features 1,020 guest rooms in six high-rise buildings, will enjoy a close partnership with the Pointe Orlando shopping, dining, nightlife and entertainment complex which is located just across International Drive and within a short walk of the hotel. Hotel guests will receive special offers for discounts at many of Pointe Orlando's restaurants, retail and entertainment locations.
As the Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista takes on the name Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista, it will remain a Choice Hotel brand, but will reflect the more upscale Clarion name and reputation. The hotel features 640 rooms in four high-rise buildings near Downtown Disney. An interactive children's splash park is set to open late this July in an annex to one of the hotel's two swimming pools. The 315-room Rodeway Inn International will soon be renamed Rosen Inn, and will be the closest Rosen Inn to Universal Orlando, better promoting its minutes-away access to the popular theme parks, Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.
There are currently no plans to rename the 728-room Quality Inn International, which was the first hotel that Harris Rosen purchased on June 24, 1974.
Extensive renovations at each of the four hotels was completed this year, with every guest room receiving all new furniture that was made in America, as well as new carpet, window treatments, upgraded art work, luxurious pillow-top mattresses and stylish, yet comfortable bedding. Private bathrooms now feature granite finish vanity and modern decorative lighting. Additional renovations were made to each hotel individually, including items such as signage, designer landscaping, repaved parking lots, new pool furniture and decks, updated elevator interiors, and environmentally friendly lighting. Refurbishments have also made the hotels more eco-friendly. These practices include, but are not limited to, water conservation measures by installing low flow plumbing fixtures and implementing a linen reuse program, and energy efficiency achieved by installing compact florescent (CFL) bulbs in all guestroom lamps and light fixtures, among other improvements.
The three International Drive properties offer guests complimentary, scheduled shuttle service to Universal Orlando®, SeaWorld Orlando®, Aquatica® and Wet 'n Wild Orlando® (reservation required). The I-Ride Trolley stops in front of each hotel, providing low-cost transportation to more than 75 stops in the International Drive attractions area. The three hotels are conveniently located off I-4, on International Drive, in the heart of the attractions area and just 12-15 minutes from Orlando International Airport.
The Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista offers guests complimentary scheduled daily transportation to Walt Disney World Resort® theme parks, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando and Aquatica. The hotel is located just off I-4, approximately 20 minutes from Orlando International Airport.

Crave restaurant by Orlando’s Mall at Millenia

Crave uses the highest quality, freshest ingredients available. All of the meat is either 100% natural or free range raised, and all of the dressings and sauces are made from scratch on the premises. Since Crave supports locally owned, independently operated farms and businesses, the Orlando Crave menu differs from the Minnesota locations. The lunch menu includes appetizers such as Chicken Satay, Gingered Beef Egg Roll, and Citrus Ceviche. Lunchtime entrees include a selection of pastas, pizzas, flatbreads, and sandwiches, plus locally inspired entrees such as Blackened Florida Grouper, Grilled Petite Tender, and Mango & Prawns.
For dinner, the menu selection is expanded to include Grilled Rib Eye, Crab Crusted Filet Mignon, Tuscan New York Strip, and Pan Seared Sea Bass. The Sushi menu includes Crave’s twist on a few American classics, including specialty rolls with names like Caterpillar, Godzilla, and…Mexican. Most intriguing, however, is the Monday night burger menu, featuring a Truffled Mushroom Burger, Fried Egg Burger and Peanut Butter Burger (with bacon).
Whether you are planning a romantic dinner for two, a business dinner, a social celebration or a corporate gathering, Orlando’s newest restaurant is guaranteed to have something that everyone will Crave.

Long Term Car Rental Option
Is long term car rental an option for someone who has filed bankruptcy in the last 3 yrs and does not have good credit?
You would need a credit card in your own name to rent a car for a long term rental. What you would probably want to look at is if the car rental company that you're looking at wants to charge you for the whole amount of the long term rental up front, when you pick up the car... or will they be billing the credit card each month. Car rental companies differ in their policies and it can even depend on the length of the rental or the car type.
You can try searching for long term car rental terms and conditions or policies on various car rental company websites... if you are not able to find the information on the site, don't hesitate to contact a reservation agent through that particular car rental companies toll free number.. they'd be able to find out the policy for you.
Hope this helps!

Magic fever strikes Orlando

Founded in 1989, the Orlando Magic drafted Shaquille O’Neal in 1992, who led the team to two division titles and one conference title. After Shaq left Orlando for LA in 1996, the team took several seasons to regroup, but a new generation of Magic fans look up to Dwight Howard as their Superman.
Last season, the Magic went all the way to the finals before losing to the LA Lakers, and this year Orlando seems poised to take on another championship run. This fall the Amway Arena (formerly the TD Waterhouse Center) will be replaced by the brand new Amway Center as the new home for Orlando’s favorite pro team, where fans are eager to see some championship banners hanging from the rafters.

Always More Art In Stresa

My mind is still on the lungolago, the street along the lake, and the various little wonders that can be seen there, if one only looks. In the previous post, the guest post by Tony, we read about the gardens at the Hotel Iles des Borromees, which are open to the public. Today, I'm thinking about the new statues that I noticed along the lakefront.
I noticed the first of the new carrara marble statues almost immediately upon my arrival in Stresa, and Colleague explained to me that it was one of a set of three. At the first opportunity I went walking with my camera to find the other two. Interesting artworks...
Back in May 2007, three blocks of marble of equal size were given to three internationally known sculptors. Housed outside the Villa La Palazzola on the lungolago, the three artists worked, side by side, between May 12 and May 27, using the technique called a togliere -- to remove -- the techique typical of sculptors in stone.
This unique exhibition not only gave the artists the opportunity to collaborate and exchange ideas with each other; it also gave tourists and passersby the chance to watch, step by step, as the works were revealed.
... this one is in front of La Luna nel Porto Hotel ...
The three artists are:
Hattori Koh-Emon was born in Japan in 1947 and studied art at Brera. He works with various materials and his works can be seen in many places throughout Italy, Europe, and Japan.

And now the three white marble sculptures have been moved into three locations along the lake: One is in front of the Cafe Verbanella, one in front of the Hotel La Luna nel Porto, on the eastern edge of town, and one is just a bit to the west of the front of the church, across the street from Villa Ducale.

The three artists are:
Manuel Alvarez was born in Spain in 1945, and has lived in numerous places around the world. His sculptures enrich many piazze, from Barcelona to Atlanta, and from Madrid to Venice.
Gino Corsanini was born in Ortonovo in 1947 and lives in Milan. As with this statue, carrara is the material with which he makes most of his large sculptures.

Florida Carriage Museum

The European gallery traces the roots of our American culture. It features an Armbruster Full Dress Chariot as its centerpiece. The American Gallery brings to life the impact the horse and carriage had on the growth and development of our country.
Early automobiles and brightly-colored fire carriages take center stage in the New Vehicle Room. In the South Gallery there is a display of Brewster carriages, carousel horses, and a Pair and Tandem Turnout featuring exquisitely harnessed model horses.
Whether a collector of carriages or typical tourist, one will be amazed and awed by this comprehensive carriage collection and display of appointments. From a simple, scarlet road cart to the most elaborate golden dress chariot, everything in the collection will intrigue and delight the visitor.
The Museum features educational kiosks, story boards, a theater, hands-on room and 250-seat lecture hall. A breed barn, contiguous to the Museum, features live horses from around the world. All combine to educate students and visitors about the social history of the horse and the importance of the carriage in developing civilizations.
Guests may tour the grounds in horse-drawn carriages or golf carts. They may picnic under ancestral oaks, or enjoy lunch in the Tea Room.
The resort is a “Bed and Barn” where guests vacation with or without horses in the temperate climate of Central Florida. It features 24 well-appointed residences and 12 barns with adjacent paddocks. Visitors from around the world come to train, visit the museum, and participate in conferences, retreats and clinics.
The resort offers single, pair, tandem, and four-in-hand driving lessons; driving workshops; and week-long retreats using their experienced carriage driving horses.

Giardini de Hotel Iles des Borromees
Here's a nice detour to incorporate into your stroll along the lungolago. As guest writer Tony points out, not many know that it is possible and permitted to enter the gardens of the five-star Hotel Iles des Borromees. I didn't know this either... although I have stepped inside a few times to take a peek because the gate was open. It is nice to know that it is allowed... So please do... feel free to enter; be respectful of course, but stroll, admire, and, as Tony says, enjoy...
From Tony -- Giardini de Hotel Iles des Borromees
Not well known is the fact that the gardens of the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees are open to the public. Well, we’ve never been tossed out, but we don’t walk on the grass or carry a dripping gelato in our hands. These gardens are protected, according to the Hotel website, from development, as they should be. Like many fine Italian gardens, they have specimen trees and plants are stunning in their beauty. It is now Spring and these gardens, like all of the gardens of the lake, are in full bloom.
The gardens begin to the left of the gate that is to the left of the hotel as you face it from the lake. The gardens are on that side of the hotel and go back and beyond the parking lot that bisects them. There is some statuary in the gardens but the main statuary is directly at the end of the drive into the left of the hotel. The azaleas are mature and full of blooms. Pansies border the gardens in the Spring and annuals border in the Summer. The lawn is manicured.
These gardens back from the center of the Stresa lakefront are a treat and easy to reach. Enjoy.
Grazie mille again to Tony, for sharing this great information with us. All the beautiful photographs of the Borromee gardens are also his work.
