If you saw the thick black smoke on Saturday mid-afternoon and wondered what it was, wonder no longer: it was the Carib Royale hotel (on World Center Drive, almost to the 417). This is the hotel with the waterfall along the front - I keep meaning to poke my head inside.

WFTV reports no one was injured, with no word on the cause. But it caused damage!

Carzonrent Raises Rs 36Cr From BTS India PE

This is the third round of funding into the firm, which now intends to expand to neighbouring countries.

Car rental company Carzonrent India Pvt Ltd, which operates under the name Easy Cabs, has raised Rs 36 crore from private equity fund BTS India. This is part of the Rs 100 crore being raised by the company in its third round of funding.
In 2005, Carzonrent India first received Rs 6 crore from SIDBI Ventures, for a 10% stake. In 2006, Sequoia Capital invested $6 million into Carzonrent for a little less than 20% stake, which has fallen further this week. BTS India's portfolio comprises of Caravel Logistics Private Ltd., Mantri Metallics Private Ltd., Microqual Techno Private Ltd., Parabolic Drugs Ltd., QAI India Ltd., Reliable Autotech Private Ltd. and Sai Sudhir Infrastructures Ltd.
The funding will be used to lay the base for expansion into neighbouring countries over the next few years. "We see the industry now is ready to expand. There is good opportunity and demand. We will be expanding our fleet size as well as opting for geographical expansion. In the next 2 years, we will launch in neighbouring countries," said Rajiv K. Vij, CEO, Carzonrent (India) Pvt. Ltd., speaking to VCCircle.

Acquisitions could be a part of his plans, he added. Carzonrent India registers a monthly revenue of Rs 23 crore with profit margins at around 10%, said Vij.
The 10-year-old firm offers self drive, fleet management, operating lease and low cost taxi services. It services 450 large corporates, offering both car rental and lease with a fleet of more than 4,000 cars. It also offers a limousine service, which is picking up well, according to Vij.
Another major player in the industry Meru Cabs, owned by V-link Travel Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Meru is majority-owned by PE major India Value Fund and is expected to take its fleet size to 7,000 by the year-end.

The week's activities connect the history and culture of Piedmont during the 17th century with the art and architecture of the era as the children create ornate hardscapes out of lake rocks, design their own tapestry, set a performance in the mannerism style with a garden as the mis-en-scene, build a diorama illustrating features of Baroque architecture and interior design, learn to cook regional specialties with fresh local ingredients, and try to solve the mystery as to why there is a unicorn in the garden… This session includes a fieldtrip to the palace and gardens on Isola Bella.

I love how this program will focus around the mysterious unicorn in the garden. Those of you who have been here may already know that the unicorn is one of the Borromeo family symbols. A statue of a unicorn rides high above the gardens of Isola Bella, greeting visitors as the come and go. The Borromeo palace and gardens can make anyone feel like a child again... Imagine allowing a child to discover it and learn about it in this fun way. And perhaps a lifelong love of Italian culture it may encourage.

Can I Rent a Car for Someone Else using My Credit Card?

I want to rent a car for my son and daughter. My son is 23 and my daughter is 26. I want to use my credit card to pay. Neither one has their own credit card. Is this possible? I would be buying the car damage insurance policy on both. My son would be picking up in Melbourne Fl and my daughter would be picking up in Myrtle Beach Sc.

In all my research, I've never found a car rental company that would allow this. While you can reserve a rental car for someone else, it's not possible to rent a car for someone else. Car Rental policies regarding credit identification state that the renter must meet the minimum age requirements (usually an extra fee for renters under 25), present a valid drivers license and show a credit card in their own name at the rental counter with whatever available credit the car rental will require.

This policy is standard for all the major national brands -- Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National, Thrifty, etc.

You may try contacting some smaller, independantly owned car rental companies, (try searching for car rental companies for Melbourne and Myrtle Beach on yellowpages.com) -- you can contact them to see if they would allow you to use your credit card to rent a car for your son or daughter.

The Hertz Corporation announced today the appointment of Edward Hu General Manager and Vice President,  Hertz China. Mr. Hu is based in Shanghai, China and reports to Michel Taride, President, Hertz International and Executive Vice President, Hertz Corporation.
