Avis Budget Group has unveiled an enhanced version of its Web-based booking tool for travel professionals located in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Starting in June, the new site will allow agents to issue paperless, prepaid vouchers for Avis and Budget car rentals worldwide. Until now, Latin America-based travel professionals used a booking tool to make reservations and a separate system to issue paper vouchers that customers were required to present at the rental counter at the time of vehicle pickup.
“We streamlined the reservation process for agents and made traveling more convenient for consumers,” said Kaye Ceille, senior vice president of international sales and marketing for Avis Budget Group. “Paperless vouchers allow for faster processing at the time of reservation and at the rental counter, and eliminate the need for travelers to present vouchers when picking up a vehicle.”
Low Cost Car Rental
Available in English, Spanish and Portuguese, the new booking tool is faster, easier to navigate and more user-friendly. Travel professionals can view all available vehicles, compare multiple rates at a time, create, modify and cancel reservations as well as issue, adjust and void vouchers for Avis and Budget rentals. The tool is available for reservations on all car classes, including specialty vehicles such as minivans and those in the Avis Cool Car Collection or Budget’s Street Fleet, a collection of fun-to-drive vehicles like the Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Corvette and the Ford Mustang. Agents can also book optional equipment for their customers, including child safety seats, where2 GPS navigation units and Avis Blast/Budget Blast, the Company’s Sirius XM radio units available with all car classes.

SeaWorld Ends Residents Fun Card
Today was the last day for Florida and Georgia residents to purchase a Fun Card from SeaWorld Orlando or Tampa Bay Busch Gardens. The $80 ticket allowed residents to turn their one day visit into a multi-day ticket good through the end of the year.
The company is apparently satisfied that attendance will continue to trend upwards as the economy recovers. They will be pushing annual passes instead. Switching to an AP should be a relatively painless upgrade for most as SeaWorld offers monthly payment plans for the AP and it includes parking. When you added in parking for future visits the FunCard was less of a value anyway.
The AP has other benefits (including food and merchandise discounts and discounts on tickets for other Seaworld parks) and is good for 365 days from purchase too.

Ford Ka is worst car, say drivers
The Ford Ka has been named the UK's most disappointing car in the huge annual car owner satisfaction survey conducted by JD Power and What Car?.
The first generation Ka, unveiled in 1996, reached iconic status - even though it too finished at the bottom of last year's survey. That was almost excusable, though, because it was over 14 years old and competing with much newer models.
However, this disappointing result relates to the new Ka, launched in 2008. It's the first time the car has appeared in the survey, which was completed by 16,840 owners. The majority of complaints related to poor build quality.
But Ford was spared the overall worst manufacturer result, which went to Vauxhall. The company has never fared well in JD Power surveys, but this is the first time it has sunk to the bottom of the pile, with every one of its models scoring below the industry average. Poor dealer service was cited, too.
The Japanese manufacturers took top honours once again, with Lexus winning the best manufacturer category. Incredibly, this is the 11th year in a row that the company has come out on top. In fact, Lexus has won every year since it became eligible for participation.
Top overall car is the Lexus IS junior executive, which takes over from last year's winner, the Lexus RX SUV. Owners gave the IS excellent scores for quality, reliability and dealer service
The annual JD Power survey - produced in partnership with auto mag What Car? - is widely regarded as the most thorough and authoritative car customer satisfaction survey there is. It is split into four sections: vehicle quality and reliability, vehicle appeal, service satisfaction and ownership costs.
The average age of the 16,840 vehicles surveyed is two years (cars must be between one and three years old to qualify) and the average mileage is 16,000.
The average respondent age is 51, with a 60/40 split male to female. Owners are approached at random to participate, and a particular car model must have at least 50 surveys completed for it to be eligible.
The top ten cars of 2011 are:
1. Lexus IS
2. Honda Accord
3. Lexus RX
4. Honda CR-V
5. Toyota Prius
6. Toyota RAV4
7. BMW 5 Series (tied)

A train ticket becomes validated on the day you use it by stamping it in the yellow box (in photo at right) along the wall near the tracks at the station. You can review more train information in this post:
http://stresasights.blogspot.com/2009/04/stresa-train-station.html
As for categories, ask at the Stresa ticket window for an IC or an EC train. Those are the 'Express' trains. What you DO NOT WANT is an R train. That is the Regional train, which will slowly make every local stop and take twice as long. Another advantage of purchasing your tickets directly at the window is that you will be able to ask the attendant to be certain you have the correct ticket for you.

Car Rental–Search volumes for domestic and worldwide destinations down
Greenlight used industry data to classify 356 of the most popular global destinations that UK consumers travel to, profiling which search terms were used to find car hire companies in each location, how popular each keyword was and which supplier of car hire services were most visible.
Most popular search terms and destinations
‘Car hire’ was the most popular search term, accounting for 14% of all searches in January. It was used 110,000 times, a notable increase compared with October, when the term totalled just 49,500 searches. ‘Car rental’ was the next most popular, accounting for 5% (40,500 searches)
The UK was the most searched for destination, with the terms ‘car hire UK’ and ‘car rental UK’ accounting for 5% of the total search volume.
Searches for car hire in Europe remained the most popular, representing almost half (47%) of all geographically-based keyword searches. Four out of the top five most popular terms were for car hire in Spain, which emulates the considerable size of the UK consumer market for such services.
London Gatwick Car Hire
Most visible websites
Greenlight determined the best positioned and hence most visible sites based on the volumes for each keyword and their respective ranking for those terms on page one of Google in natural, paid and integrated search.
For non-specific destination car hire-related searches, Europcar was the most visible website in natural search. It attained 71% share of visibility, a 3% increase on the previous quarter. Europcar ranked at position one for the two most searched for generic search terms, ‘car hire’ and ‘car rental’, which cumulatively accounted for 43% of the total search volume (a growth of 10% since October).
Car hire-related searches specifically for destinations (including airports) in the UK and Ireland accounted for more than 138,000 searches in January 2011. CarRentals was once again the most visible website, achieving 58% share of voice in natural search. It also maintained its lead for worldwide destinations, achieving 63% share of visibility - an increase of 10% on the previous quarter.
CarHire3000 was the most visible advertiser in January, achieving 81% share of voice, which was a 7% decrease since October, whilst Avis moved up from fourth position to second in Greenlight’s paid search league table. In January, Avis achieved 52% visibility.
“In the car hire sector very few of the top brands are capitilising on the potential advantages of social networking, such as conversing with consumers and promoting special offers”, notes Simon Hollingsworth, lead researcher. “Of the top car hire firms we analysed in social media, just three cumulatively have more than a thousand followers on Facebook and Twitter, CarRentals, TravelSupermarket and Avis, indicating that many other brands should focus on developing their social media pages in order to promote engagement and channel consumers to their websites.”

The world's most expensive number plates
There used to be a time when a private plate really meant you were doing ok for yourself. Now, though, they're so cheap that they're rarely a status symbol.
Apart from these beauties that is. We'll start with the UK's five top plates, then move onto the world's list - all of which dwarf our humble registration record breakers, and, interestingly, were all bought in the same country: Abu Dhabi.
In the UK
5
Plate: VIP 1
Price: £285,000
Buyer: Roman Abramovich
When: 2006
The UK's most famous Russian oil oligarch, whose net worth is an estimated £8.4bn, bought VIP 1 as a nice little boost to his self-esteem. Abramovich was planning on putting the plate on his prized pre-facelift second generation green Fiat Punto, but he decided on his Rolls-Royce Corniche IV instead.
4
Plate: M1
Price: £331,500
Buyer: Mike McCoomb
When: 2006
After Mike McCoomb sold his mobile phone company to BT for around £40m, a number plate seemed a nice way to parade his new wealth. We're not sure what plate he bought for himself though, because this one was for his ten-year-old son. Apparently the boy was furious - he'd specifically asked for a Play-Doh Barber Shop.
3
Plate: 1D
Price: £352,411
Buyer: Nabil Bishara
When: 2009
Lebanese property developer Nabil Bishara paid this staggering price at an auction in Warwickshire, in March 2009. He bought it for his wife's Bentley as a surprise present.
2
Plate: S1
Price: £404,063
Buyer: Anonymous
When: 2008
September 2008 saw the purchase of Edinburgh's first registered number plate, at a Bonhams auction in Chichester. The bidder said, perhaps sarcastically, that the plate would be registered to “an old red Skoda.”
1
Plate: F1
Price: £440,625
Buyer: Afzal Khan
When: 2008
Afzal Khan, owner of car styling company Project Kahn, is officially the owner of the UK's most expensive plate. He first put it on his Mercedes-McLaren SLR, though we recently saw it on Mr Khan's white Bugatti Veyron parked in his Bradford showroom.
The rest of the world
5
Plate: 7
Price: £1.58m
The world records are all held by single-digit plates bought at a series of auctions in Abu Dhabi, starting in May 2007, with the proceeds going to various charities including to a rehabilitation centre for traffic accident victims. Who'd have believed that a £1.58 million plate could be only fifth on the list?
4
Plate: 9
Price: £1.72m
This is the fifth single digit number plate to sell in Abu Dhabi. The May 2008 auction that it was part of saw 100 plates sold in front of 450 bidders. In total, 52 million UAE dirhams was raised for charity - around £9m.
3
Plate: 7
Price: £3m
A YouTube video shows plate number 7 fetching its staggering price. They don't do things by half over in Abu Dhabi, selling the plate from a huge stage complete with an Enzo Ferrari, a Mercedes-Benz G Wagen and a Maybach.
2
Plate: 5
Price: £3.4m
Nobody thought that the ludicrous £3.4m paid by Emirati stockbroker Talal Khouri for number 5 would be broken - he said the number meant nothing to him - until the February 2008 auction of number 1.
1
Plate: 1
Price: £7.1m
“I bought it because it's the best number,” said Saeed Khouri after he paid £7.1m for the number 1. One of 90 plates sold in its auction, the event raised a total of £14.7m for charity.

Car Rental Coupon Code
I want to rent a car for the weekend and I found a coupon code that has a limit of 100 miles per day. I want to pick the car up on Friday afternoon and return on Monday afternoon. My question is, do both Monday and Friday count as full rental days? So am I allowed 100 miles for Fri.,Sat.,Sun., and Monday?
Car rental companies generally charge for a 24 hour period day, as opposed to a calendar day. So Friday afternoon to Monday afternoon (by the same time) would be considered 3 - 24 hour periods = 3 day rental. (You can check this on your rate quote or reservation confirmation -- it should tell you the number of days of your rental).
If you pick up earlier on Friday... or return later on Monday, you can get a fourth day (and the extra 100 miles -- BUT you're also paying for the extra day.
Hope this helps.

Ryanair to focus on yields and costs
DUBLIN, May 23 (Reuters) - Irish budget airline Ryanair is not planning on growing quickly in the next couple of years but will instead focus on improving yields and keeping costs down.
"I see a lot of upside in us not growing for the next year or two, at least not growing in the top line," Chief Executive Michael O'Leary told an analyst conference call.
Ryanair does not expect the Irish government to sell its 25 percent stake in Aer Lingus to it, O'Leary also said.
"Our strategy with Aer Lingus is wait and see. I think the government will sell the stake, but not to us," he said.
He said he had no plans to sell Ryanair's near 30 percent stake, but would consider it if the price was right.
Ryanair plans to pay out dividends towards the end of 2013 unless it makes a major plane order before that he said. Ryanair plans to build its cash stockpile to 4 billion euros for a major plane order, he said.
