Does my Credit Card Cover the Rental Car Insurance?

I'm wondering if my Master Card coverage will cover the loss damage waiver on a rental where I'm using a free day coupon? I talked to a customer service rep. from the credit card company, and they say as long as the car rental company charges one day on the bill, the Loss Damage Waiver is coverd. Does that mean I can go ahead and decline the LDW coverage at the car rental counter?

I would check with the car rental company, to make sure that they will charge one day on the bill, as requested by Master card. It's hard to say how that works when using a free day coupon. If you decline the coverage offered at the counter; just be aware how the master card insurance coverage works.

If you have insurance available to you - for instance, if your personal auto insurance policy covers car rentals, then you must claim that first. If there is a deductible, you can then go to the coverage that is offered from the Mastercard to be reimbursed for the deductible.

Keep in mind also, that the Master Card coverage is secondary to any other applicable insurance or coverage available to you. And that the coverage offered through the credit card is limited to only those amounts not covered by any other insurance or coverage benefit. If you already have personal automobile insurance coverage, you should contact your insurance provider for full coverage details pertaining to your personal vehicle insurance policy.

If you have no other insurance or your insurance does not cover you in territories or countries outside of the United States, MasterRental would be considered the primary coverage for the rental car.
