I have ldw through my American Express card and don't have personal automobile insurance. What other insuances or extras should I buy from the rental company?
Car rental companies are required by law, in most states, to carry basic third party public liability and property damage insurance on their vehicles, up to the minimum limits required by state law, this means you are covered even if you have no personal automobile insurance. (I beleive that California and Texas may be exceptions) This covers you in the event of an accident for injuries and/or damage to other people, property and
vehicles. (the ldw is what covers the rental car itself)
Just double check with your rental car company of choice to see if basic liability coverage is included.
The car rental companies may offer (or try to sell you) a Supplemental or Additional Liability insurance (keywords here being supplemental and additional). The purchases of these coverages merely increase your
coverage, beyond what is required by state law... you're already covered for the minimum. You certainly may purchase it if you wish, but it is not a requirement.
Hope this helps.
