One day trip to Ooty- A blast with friends

Last weekend was simply amazing for a lot of reasons, my friends and I set out for a nice road trip to Ooty, and since this little escape of ours was completely unplanned, it added to the entire excitement of the trip. Every little nasty thing that happened during the trip evoked much laughter as well as a little agony.
Hailing from Kolkata and with the festive season on we were all feeling home sick and extremely low on morale. It was then that my friend suddenly came up with the idea of setting out on a road trip to this beautiful little hill station of Tamil Nadu and within an hour we decided to set out early-morning Saturday.
Ooty is situated at a distance of 284 kms from Bangalore by road and the journey takes about eight hours, depending on the traffic and road condition. One can opt for the shorter route for which a diversion has to be taken at Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary. This route goes through the small towns of Masinagudi and Kalhatti. This route cuts down the distance to Ooty by about 50 kms.
As previously decided one of my friends got his car and off, we were a happy pack of five friends. We left the house at 3:30 AM in the morning and moved ahead to avoid the hassles of Traffic conditions. The route we took was Bangalore -> Mysore -> Bandipur -> Mudumalai -> Ooty.
Mysore being somewhere around 170 kms from Bangalore, we reached the place at 7 am in the morning and as our stomachs were grumbling with hunger, we decided to take a break here and have a hearty breakfast. We stopped at Hotel Dasaprakasham and enjoyed a typical south Indian fare with idly and masala dosas, we also stocked up on some snacks and liquids for the journey ahead.
After a break of one hour, we resumed our journey on the highway. Our next destination was the Bandipur national park some 80 kms from Mysore. We reached Bandipur around 10:00 AM. It was getting a little hot, so we decided not to venture out and continue our journey the forest area of Mudumalai. After reaching Mudumalai, we were in for some luck as we saw several elephants on our way.
By around 11we reached the Ghat area that starts just after the Mudumalai forest area. The ride along this section known for its 36 hair pin bends was pretty exciting as well nerve wracking as our lives were completely in our friend's hands.
Finally, it was around 12.30 PM that we reached Ooty and directly went for some local sightseeing before crashing at Hotel Tamil Nadu for a night stay and early next day we were back in Bangalore fully rejuvenated with the fun and excitement.
