What to Expect on a Kenya Safari

AppId is over the quota

What to Expect on Your Kenya Safari

When most people book their holidays they strive for the perfect blend of experiencing new things alongside the chance to have some rest and relaxation time, so going on a Kenya safari can be quite a change. Regularly misjudged, people tend to assume that holidaying in the unpredictable wilderness means an action packed vacation. Whilst this if of course the case, it can also be arranged for you to indulge in some serious relaxation time too. Crack of dawn wake-up calls, early game drives, long walks and encounters with Africa's greatest wildlife can be followed by a luxury spa treatment or a refreshing swim in many of the lodges and camps. You can also choose to combine your safari experience with a beach break on the Kenya Coast or another one of Africa's Indian Ocean islands.

Wildlife and Game Viewing

Although you will obviously be expecting to see some big game and wildlife, what you will see will be completely unpredictable, 50 percent planning and 50 percent good fortune. Unfortunately wild animals do not stand to attention to allow pictures to be taken by the latest safari rumbling by, but what you can do is talk to your Kenya safari guide/driver. Let him know what your preferences are, what you're dying to see and what you could live without. Your guide should have a good enough knowledge of the area to know which animals will be where, at what times, weather and season dependent. Keeping yourself open to whatever opportunities arise during excursions is key to achieving the best possible experience and some fantastic photos! If you want guaranteed sightings of the big wildlife, it may be worth talking to your safari tour operator about seeing the Great Wildebeest Migration. This is a fantastic natural event that occurs annually where over two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle make an epic journey from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara in search for fresh pasture and water.

Kenya Safari and The Weather

Even though Kenya is situated on the Equator, safaris generally take place near coastal, low altitude regions. During the day average temperatures will mean the weather will be warm to hot and therefore t-shirts and shorts made out of light, breathable fabrics will be ideal to keep comfortable. Sun hats, sunglasses and sun screen are recommended to be worn whilst out on your Kenya safari. Overnight, however, can be a different story and temperatures can plummet depending on the time of year. It is also worth packing warmer clothing to keep you snug on the early game expeditions. Other essential items to pack for your Kenya Safari include safari boots, a hat, jacket and warm pyjamas.
