Rental Car Insurance Coverage -- Using Coverage from Additional Driver?
My friend has rented a car from Avis using his Aeroplan points. I have Roadstar coverage under my care insurance which covers rental car insurance. He does not have this coverage.
Will we be covered if the car is rented under his name but I do all the driving and the insurance is covered by me?
The rental car company deems that whomever is the renter of the car (using their drivers license and credit car to sign the car out, with their name being listed as the renter on the contract) carries the burden of responsibility for the rental vehicle, even when an authorised additional driver is driving the car.
Unfortunately, because your friend is renting the car, he is considered fully financially responsible for the rental car, regardless of whether or not he ever drives it. He would not be able to use your insurance coverage to cover the rental car.
