UCF Orlando

Most people think of Orlando, FL as the tourism capital of the southeastern United States, but did you know that it is also a college town? The University of Central Florida has more than 50,000 students attending classes on UCF’s main campus on the east side of Orlando (just take University Avenue all the way east) and its 11 regional campuses throughout Central Florida. Many UCF graduates remain in the Orlando area, making UCF Knights bumper stickers almost as commonplace as Walt Disney World antenna toppers.

Compared to Florida State, the University of Florida and the University of Miami, UCF is a relative newcomer, founded in 1968. Forty years later, UCF has become the fifth-largest university in the nation, and it is still expanding with the newly established College of Graduate Studies and the College of Medicine.

The College of Medicine is particularly exciting for local residents because it will create thousands of jobs as part of “Medical City” of research institutions and hospitals being built in the southeastern part of Orlando. The UCF College of Medicine is the first medical school in US history to offer full four-year scholarships to an entire class—over 4300 applicants competed for 40 slots in the new Med School.
