Car Rental Drivers License Requirements

'Im 39 and have just passed my driving test. Is it possible to rent a car as new driver please, and if not, what is the minimum time to have been driving?


Car Rentals within the European Union require that you have held your drivers license for a minimum of one year. I have never seen this restriction applied in the United States or Canada.

As with all car rental policy, not all information can be found on the car rental companies websites, and policies can vary by company and change at any time and without notice.

I would recommend that you contact a reservation rep (most companies have customer support email contact or toll free reservation phone numbers on their websites contact information) to verify the specific policy of the car rental company you wish to rent from.
