Lowest Car Rental Rates

Is there a secret to finding the lowest car rental rates? Rent weekend to weekend? Rent cars on Tuesdays?

There's no secret to finding the lowest rates.... it's really just a matter of doing some research and knowing a few tips.

Here's what I consider the most important things to know to find the cheapest rate possible for your particular rental (ie, cities, dates, times, etc).

1. Make an Advanced Booking

If you can reserve your rental 4 weeks or more in advance, you can often get a better deal. Reserving or renting at the last minute and booking during heavy travel times (like holidays)

2. Find a Car Rental Discount Code or Rental Car Coupon

Many programs and associations (travel clubs, auto clubs, professional associations, etc) offer car rental discounts as part of their rewards or benefits to members. You can contact the association direct or check their website for member benefits for car rental. I've compiled a list of car rental discount codes for 8 major car rental companies. Find a code to use on your next rental!

You can sometimes find rental car discount coupons or specials on car rental company websites directly. Make sure to check the terms and conditions of these specials to see if they work for your rental.

There are also websites that offer free car rental coupon codes:

3. Size makes a Difference

Only rent the size car you need... smaller cars are usually cheaper!

4. The Best Car Rental Rates are Usually found on Weekends or Weekly Rentals

The cheapest car rental rates are usually on weekend rentals (thu or Fri to Sun or Mon- for most companies) or weekly rates -- a minimum 5 day rental that includes a Saturday stayover.

5. Compare Rates from Multiple Companies

It can seem that all companies should have the same prices, but it's always best to compare rates from several car rental companies before you decide.

Hope this helps!
