Monthly Car Rental Rates

I am planning to rent a car for 6 months as I have a six month contract in Vancouver. What would be the cheapest way to do this? As I plan on living in Washington State, would I get cheaper montly car rental rates in the US?

You would really have to compare monthly car rental rates from multiple companies in order to determine which would have the cheapest rate based on your particulars (ie length of rental, car size, pickup location, etc). It may be cheaper to rent in the US, but that may depend on the particular city that you wish to rent from. The rates will be determined by the particular city you rent the car from and return it to, how long the rental is and the specific size car you wish to rent.

When checking rates, make sure that your rate includes unlimited mileage.

I would definitely compare rates for Vancouver vs your preferred city in Washington State to see which would be less expensive (making sure to keep the exchange rate in mind).

You will also want to make sure that the company you wish to rent from will allow travel into Canada (if you rent in the US) or allow you to travel into the US (if you rent the car in Canada). While most car rental companies allow US residents to travel back and forth across the border, some companies in some cities restrict travel across the border.

Note: I say US residents, because Canadian law restrictions a Canadian resident from taking a US owned rental car into Canada.

You can often find possible geographic restrictions when price checking online, by checking for a links during the rate quote process for rental restrictions, local policy information, terms of rental or terms and conditions.

You will have to have direct permission from the particular company/location that you rent from in order to take their car across the Canadian/American Border.

There are several car rental companies that offer specific programs for long term rentals... (Avis and Budget are both offering e-coupons for $50 off long term rentals); you can find some information on those programs at

Hope this helps a bit. Thanks for your question.
