How About a Wee Trip Across the Scottish Border?

AppId is over the quota

The UK is a fantastic place to travel around, and many people find that heading up north is one of the best parts of their holiday. But why not go a little bit further this year, and find a special Scottish hideaway to relax in?

A trip around the UK is a highly rewarding experience, and whether you're new to the country, or if you're from Britain originally, you'll find that there is something for everyone to do and enjoy on the British Isles. However, while some people are often attracted to locations around England and Wales, such as London and Cardiff, there are a great many attractions to be found and appreciated in Scotland.

While Scotland is part of the UK, it's often confused as being part of England, and not only is this wrong, this is actually quite frustrating for Scots and English people as well, because each has their own very separate identities. And if you really want to get a feel of Scottish life, culture, customs and pastimes, then it's best to head across the border and start in one or Scotland's best cities, such as Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Edinburgh is Scotland's capital city, and can be found in the east of the country. It's home to a number of important places, such as the Scottish Parliament, Holyrood Palace, which is where the Queen stays when she visits Scotland, Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. Edinburgh is also home to a number of festivals during the year, such as the Edinburgh International Festival and the Fringe Festival. Travelling to Scotland and Edinburgh during this time is great fun, and will ensure that you will get to sample the very best of Edinburgh, however, the month of August, which is when most of these festivals take place is an extremely busy time, so be aware that the Edinburgh will probably be at capacity during this time.

Glasgow which is found in the West of Scotland, while not home to any castles, is equally as famous, and arguably just as popular with visitors, thanks to its club scene, live music venues, and most importantly, its very good shopping centres and unique boutiques. In fact, Glasgow is home to a number of venues that can hold any number of people, such as the large scale SECC, the O2 Academy and The Cathouse. Like Edinburgh, Glasgow is also home to a number of festivals, such as the Glasgow Comedy Festival and the Glasgow Film Festival, which is held at the Glasgow Film Theatre, a beautiful old cinema that can be found in the heart of Glasgow City Centre. During the summer, Glasgow will be slightly busier, although not as busy as Edinburgh, so if you go to Edinburgh for one of the festivals, you'll be able to escape to Glasgow for a relatively quiet day in the West Coast. Trains between Glasgow and Edinburgh run very regularly during the summer, and First ScotRail also operate a non-stop service between the two cities at night, so whether you want to book a hotel in Edinburgh, a hotel Glasgow, or simply go to each city for one day, then you will find something to suit you across the Scottish border.
