Cancun is a coastal town on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, and is one of the most popular tourism destinations within the country. One of the largest attractions in Cancun are the beaches. Above all else, tourists head to Cancun to swim in the warm waters and relax on the shore. For the clearest waters and softest sand, spend the day at Isla Mujeres, which is most popular for young children and weak swimmers. Something more adventurous might include Jet Ski rentals, or a sailing tour out to sea. Snorkelling, scuba diving and even dolphin tours are all options in Cancun.
While the warm weather and beautiful beaches will allow for a day of napping and relaxing, there is plenty to do if keeping active is desired. Several world class golf courses can be found nearby, including the Riviera Cancun Golf Course and the Moon Spa and Golf Club, which is the lone Jack Nicklaus Signature course found in Cancun. Bird watching is also a popular pastime, as is hiking on the many dense trails inland. There are also plenty of opportunities to shopping in the local markets, selling everything from produce and cooked food to handmade crafts and souvenirs. Market 28 and Market 23 are the most popular for visitors. After a day at the beach, many visitors look forward to hearty meal or a few drinks in town. Luckily, Cancun has plenty to offer the hungry tourist. Like most major tourism resorts, much of the fare is international, with cuisines such as French, Italian, Japanese and Continental on offer. In addition, there are plenty of traditional Mexican restaurants serving authentic meals like tacos, burritos and chiles rellenos. Once the sun sets, the atmosphere transforms and starts to resemble the infamous Cancun party scene. Most of the large bars and clubs in the "Hotel Zone" cater to tourists, although quiet drinks can be had in the more casual, local bars on Yaxchilan Avenue.
