When I pick up a rental car in Ireland is it necessary to leave a deposit? Can I just leave enough money to pay for the rental when I pick it up, or do I have to leave an extra deposit?


All car rental companies require you to leave a deposit of at least the full amount of the rental. For most companies you are also required to leave an additional deposit for the cost of a full tank of gas and a certain amount as a refundable deposit (a deductible) against an accident or damage to the vehicle. This extra deposit can often be waived or reduced if you purchase the optional collision damage waiver that is sold at the rental counter.
