Something Old, Something New at Uno Chicago Grill

At least 1,000 miles away and 65 years after Ike Sewell invented deep dish pizza in downtown Chicago, Orlando visitors and residents can sample this hearty, meatpacking dish from “Up North” in the heart of sunny Florida. There are seven Uno Chicago Grill locations in the Orlando area, including one at the Crossroads Shopping Center on the outskirts of the Walt Disney World resort property. The menu includes the Chicago classic deep dish pizza that Uno’s is famous for, and in recent years Uno’s has added a wider variety of healthier fare to its menu as well.

Anyone who is familiar with the original Chicago deep dish style pizza will be pleasantly surprised to know that Uno has been named America’s #1 healthiest chain restaurant by Health magazine, it is ranked #4 out of 10 of the best family restaurants by Parenting magazine, and the roasted eggplant, spinach and feta flatbread pizza (admittedly not an Ike Sewell creation) ranked as the #1 guilt-free favorite pizza by Prevention Magazine. Of course, the original is still available—very flavorful but not as heavy as an Uno’s pizza in downtown Chicago, but then again, the wait time was closer to 20 – 25 minutes, instead of the more traditional 40 – 45 minutes in the Windy City.
