Walt Disney World Gears up for the Holidays

Year after year, Walt Disney World proves that people don’t have to shiver in freezing temperatures to get into the Christmas spirit. Even a few weeks before Thanksgiving Day, Walt Disney World begins transforming all four of the main theme parks—Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios—into a winter wonderland, Florida style. The biggest event is Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which takes place after Magic Kingdom closes and requires special event tickets. Take the monorail over to Epcot, and enjoy Christmas around the world at the World Showcase. Even Disney’s Animal Kingdom greets visitors with a giant tree decorated with African animal-themed ornaments.

Another popular attraction at Walt Disney World during the holidays is the enormous gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. This full-sized gingerbread house turned candy shop is made with 1,050 pounds of honey, 600 pounds of powered sugar, 800 pounds of flour, 140 pints of egg whites and 180 pounds of apricot glaze. Christmas festivities at the Grand Floridian and other parts of Walt Disney World have been featured on the Food Network and the Travel Channel; these annual events have become so popular that tourists and local residents look forward to making Walt Disney World a part of their Christmas plans every year.
