Liverpool is a vibrant and busy city. It was named capital of culture in 2008 and for good reason too. Liverpool has many fantastic attractions and the people of Liverpool are proud its history, culture and heritage.

Liverpool was founded in 1207 and was given city status in 1880. It was recorded in 2001 that Liverpool had a population of 816,216 and is still growing.

Liverpool's status as a city and subsequent growth was earned through the success of the city's famous port and by the early 19th century, 40% of the world's trade had travelled through the port.

Liverpool is perhaps most famous for the legendary band the Beatles whose popularity became a global phenomena from the 1960's. Their success drove the Mersey beat sound and their music has been a huge influence on music and popular culture ever since.

Liverpool is also the home of two famous premier league football clubs; Liverpool FC and Everton.

Liverpool was awarded the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004 for its celebrated waterfront, which UNESCO said, represents a 'supreme example of a commercial port at the time of Britain's greatest global significance'.
