5 Things to Bring on a Ski Vacation

AppId is over the quota

For those who rarely have the chance to take a ski vacation or even sneak off on a weekend getaway in the mountains, it's a new-found adventure. For those who love to ski, finding a new and different place to hit the slopes is an adventure in itself. Knowing what to pack is a matter of personal preference for some, while a little bit of advice might be in order for those who don't take ski vacations often. Whether travelers have stayed in 18 hotels or 1,800 hotels, something always gets left behind. Here are 5 things to pack in an overnight bag or slip into a suitcase that will make a ski vacation so much more comfortable.

Warm Socks
Whether it's time to ski or just romp in the snow, warm socks are important to keep feet comfortable. Don't pack socks that bunch up or have holes. Be sure that they are not too thick when wearing boots. Try on ski boots or snow boots with thicker socks to make sure that they fit properly. Wearing boots too tight against socks will cause more harm than good in the form of blisters. Socks with moisture wicking will help to keep the skin dry. Wool socks draw moisture away from the skin and keep the feet warm, as well.

Gloves
Wear waterproof or water resistant gloves with wrist bands or straps to avoid snow and ice sliding inside. Much like socks, comfortable gloves are a must-have on a ski vacation. They not only keep fingers free from numbness in the snow, but prevent blisters from on hands unaccustomed to gripping ski pole handles.

Lip Balm
Protecting the lips from sun, wind, cold is something most people don't think of when they're packing. This bright idea usually strikes when lips are chapped or feeling the sting of the cold winter air. Lip balms come in various flavors, colors, forms and brands. Some have sunscreen; some do not. Keeping a pocket-size tube or stick of lip balm handy keeps the lips comfortable and free from dryness and chapping.

A Friend That Skis
There are many reasons to bring a friend along on a ski getaway weekend or a week-long vacation. The most important part, of course is the companionship. Another important part is the ski knowledge and familiarity with the area. Having someone to share expenses with is another plus. When the ski companion has stayed at 1,800 hotels instead of 18, they can help choose the best places to ski and the best places to stay. Tips and tricks by avid skiers not only help newcomers to learn the ropes, but they often have a better time as a result. There is also safety in numbers on the ski slopes. In the off chance that there is an emergency, someone can go for help.
