Looking For Magical Winter Escapes

AppId is over the quota

Christmas is a wonderful time of year, but for some it can be fraught and stressful trying to fit in visits to all the family. Young couples can often find it tricky to fit in each other's families over the holiday period, particularly if they live far apart from each other. If you're in this position, why not book yourselves a holiday over the festive period and enjoy your first Christmas celebration alone together?

Winter breaks can be very romantic, and you can spend time relaxing and reconnecting with each other away from the hustle and bustle of your daily lives (and a big family Christmas). Winter breaks over Christmas can give you the perfect snowy holiday - head north for more snow and ice.

Winter breaks in Iceland can offer some stunning scenery and opportunities for exploration. You can visit the city of Reykjavik, which is strung with lights at winter time and has lots of attractions for you to enjoy, such as theatres and top quality restaurants. Iceland also has some stunning scenery for you to explore outside of the main city. Self drive winter breaks are very popular in Iceland, and probably account for the majority of holidays taken there. This allows you to hire your own car and tour the country as you like - perfect for finding stunning isolated landscapes and naturally occurring ice structures.

If you like the idea of winter breaks that include snow and ice, why not take a trip to the world famous ice hotel? Located in Swedish Lapland, the hotel is carved every year out of huge blocks of fresh ice taken from a local river. Artisans work tirelessly to create uniquely decorated rooms featuring stunning sculptures and decorated with furs to keep you warm. The ice hotel also features an ice chapel and the famous ice bar, as well as heated hotel room for the majority of your stay. You generally spend one night 'on ice' in an ice room, and then spend the rest of your stay in the heated rooms enjoying the onsite restaurant and exploring the surrounding area. Remember, you do have to visit the ice hotel over a certain period, because it doesn't exist for the majority of the year! The Christmas holidays are a perfect time to visit, and you could always combine a trip to Iceland with a visit to the ice hotel. This is a great way to experience a range of landscapes and sights - you might even be lucky enough to see the spectacular Northern Lights during your stay. Imaging bringing in the new year with a glass of champagne underneath the Aurora Borealis!

For the ultimate in winter breaks, why not take a cruise to Antarctica? Whilst December means winter in the Northern hemisphere, for the Antarctic it is high summer with the longest hours of daylight. This also happens to be the time when the first penguin chicks hatch, and seeing this is sure to be a once in a lifetime experience, though many of the babies remain huddled under their parents for a time.
