Boulder on Bikes

The Boulder Cruiser Club holds a community bike ride where participants ride together all over Boulder. The club was initially intended for cruiser bikes, but any and every kind of bike is welcome and encouraged to ride. Every Thursday evening starting at 7:30pm the group of more than 300 or so Boulderites ride into the night. There is no specified time of ending, so it's really up to you when you want to go home. Because a large amount of the bikes in this ride are cruisers (who only have one gear), don't expect to get a serious workout from this ride. Every week there is a new theme for the ride. Some examples include: Pajamas, St. Patrick's Day, Robots, Pink, Pirate, Disco Fever, etc. and people go all out with wigs, makeup, costumes, and lights. To prepare for this week's theme see the Boulder Cruiser Club's Theme Page. If you have any questions or want to stay informed you can become a member of their Yahoo Group. The group gathers at Scott Carpenter Park, 30th & Arapahoe a little bit before 7:30 and then they are off!

Happy Thursday!

A common greeting before and during the ride is to say to someone "Happy Thursday!" Everyone around you will be having a great time and this brings a sense of joy to what seems like a regular day of the week. And who wouldn't be stoked? It's free!

Safety and Fun

Because the community bike ride starts in the evening, you need to have a front headlight and a taillight/reflector to safely ride. The club also encourages riders to obey all the traffic laws like you would in your car. So that means follow the rules of the road, but also don't ride your bike in a state that you wouldn't drive a car in. They would like their rides to be police-free. The club also stresses a fun and friendly ride without a political agenda.

The Ride Guide: A Festive Poem

To have fun and to be nice to everyone...
To ring thy bell, To wish everyone well...
To sing, to dance, to make merry,
To not bring more than I can carry...
To leave no trace, to Cruise and not to race...
To ride in control and not be a troll...
To stay to the right and to ride with a light...

And of course to say... "Have a Happy Thursday!"
