Free Frolicking in the Snow at Scott Carpenter Park

AppId is over the quota

"Dedicated in 1962, Scott Carpenter Park is named after astronaut and former Boulder resident Scott Carpenter and was designed with a lunar theme. It features a playground, a swimming pool, & skateboard park."

During the winter, Boulder can get a good amount of snow. And when the snow comes to town, the mittens and the hot chocolate come with it. And just as there are tons of fun things to do in Boulder during the summer, there are also a bunch of fun things to do in the winter, particularly in the snow. Scott Carpenter Park is one place where you can do all kinds of fun things on a snowy day in Boulder, CO. Here is a list of things to do all for free:

Make a snowman: This is a fun and free activity that everyone can enjoy. Scott Carpenter Park consists of a large hill and lawn area, so you can really make a snowman anywhere. If you don't have too much experience with building snowmen or you just want a few tips here is an article on making the perfect snowman.
Have a snowball fight: Gather a couple friends, bundle up, and head out to the park for a killer snowball fight. You can split you group into teams or play every man for himself.
Make snow angles: All you have to do is lay down in the snow and do some laying jumping-jacks. Then stand up and see your masterpiece. Make sure you wear waterproof clothing so you don't get wet.
Eat some snow: If fresh powder has just fallen, there isn't much harm in eating a little. Just don't eat the yellow snow!
Make REAL snow cones: To do this simply grab a bunch of powdery snow and put it in a large bowl or bucket. Then assess what you have in your kitchen. If you don't mind spending some money on this "free" activity that's up to you (in this case, I would recommend buying some kind of sugary colored snow cone flavoring). But if you want to hold true to your free roots, you can still make some pretty awesome snow cones. If you have any juicy fruits like oranges, melons, peaches, etc. try to squeeze the juice out of them and put that in a small bowl or glass. You can use a fruit juice or soda instead if that suits your fancy. Perhaps add some sugar or honey into the mix. Grab a handful size of snow and mold it into a ball. Put that in a serving bowl, take the juice-sugar mixture and pour it on top. Boom! Free homemade snow cones!
Go sledding: This activity isn't considered entirely free, because not all people have a sled to use. If you don't, you can go buy one or...you can be resourceful. There are a number of things that will work as sleds when you keep your eyes open. If you went out and got a tube for tubing down the Boulder Creek then you can definitely use that as a sled! If you have a boogie board or something of that nature you can also use that. If you have a snowboard you can snowboard down the hill (but know that it will be a short ride), or you can sit with your butt down between the bindings with your feet resting on the front of your board. To control yourself, dig you heels into the snow. If you want to go old school, you can even use a baking pan to go down the hill at Scott Carpenter Park.
Go for a walk: You and your significant other can walk around the park and take in the beautiful scenery. At the top of the hill there is a great view of the snow-covered flatirons. If you have a dog, you can also take them out for a walk in the snow.
