Sights To See When Visiting Sydney Australia

AppId is over the quota

Tourists who take the opportunity of visiting Sydney Australia will find themselves in a city of great entertainers and artists. The city's ocean beaches, beautiful parks, and world-famous Sydney Harbour, are all just as busy as the streets, because so many residents tend to flock outdoors. Visitors will drink in the vistas of Bondi Beach, the Opera House, and Sydney Tower, along with additional major attractions around the city.

Bondi Beach, near the heart of the city, is popular with tourists and locals. While the waves may be crowded, and a bit rough, the beach features salt water sea baths, which children will especially enjoy. Swimmers will need to watch for flags that mark the spots where swimming is allowed. In addition to the water, visitors may enjoy the outdoor workout area and the skate ramp.

The Opera House was designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzen. Tickets to the House's 2,400 annual events usually sell out quickly, but visitors may be able to obtain partial-view seats on short notice. Left-of-Centre, an emerging artists' studio, calls the Opera House home, as do a number of dance, theatre, and opera companies. Visitors may enjoy morning backstage tours, or one-hour guided tours.

Visitors may take guided tours of the Art Gallery of New South Wales between 11 AM and 2 PM. In addition to its permanent Asian, later European, and Australian collections, the museum hosts works of art from the Torres Strait Islanders and the Aborigines. On Sundays, a program called Gallery Kids conducts guided tours, and provides performances and workshops. Sulman Prize, Wynne Prize, and Archibald Prize winners all exhibit at this gallery.

At 309 meters above the city, Sydney Tower offers amazing panoramic vistas. Visitors may see as far as Botany Bay to the south, or the Blue Mountains to the west. Families should check into discount combination packages, which provide Tower tickets, in addition to Aquarium and Wildlife World tickets.

For a touch of the rural inside an urban setting, tourists should visit Manly Scenic Walkway. As the trail winds inland from the beaches, it grows more rocky and steep. Hikers may see abundant wildflowers, along with the occasional spiders or goannas. For a piece of the past, visitors should check out the Aboriginal rock carvings, near the Grotto Point Lighthouse turnoff. Also, visitors will enjoy 1930s deserted sea shanties, at the base of Crater Cove Cliff.

All visitors should journey to Circular Quay. Considered by many to be the city's heart, Circular Quay encircles Sydney Cove. Circular Quay was once the city's shipping centre, and features a number of transportation hubs, including a railroad station, the Overseas Passenger Terminal, and ferry quays. Visitors may complete their tour by trying one of many restaurants, strolling along a walkway, or touring the Museum of Contemporary Art.
