Take a self-catering holiday in Yorkshire

By Douglas Garry

Yorkshire is such a large county, it has plenty to offer everybody. If you enjoy sightseeing, there are few cities in the UK more appealing than York, with its rich history. If you prefer the countryside, Yorkshire is a fantastic place to go, with the North York Moors, the Yorkshire Dales and a fantastic coastline.

In terms of attractions, the Jorvik Centre is always worth a visit, as is the National Railway Museum, while guided tours can be a fun way to learn the city's history. York has many memorable sights and some interesting attractions as well. Many people like to take a walk round York's city walls in order to see the city and get a good view of a few of the other sights.

Whitby is famous for being the town where Dracula landed in Bram Stoker's classic tale and as well as the Abbey, there are many vampire themed attractions. Yorkshire's coast is often unjustly overlooked. Scarborough was once a traditional English seaside town, but it has modernised and offers many leisure activities these days as well as attractions such as the Rotunda Museum where you can learn about the dinosaur coast.

Yorkshire is excellent for walkers and cyclists with its rolling hills. The Yorkshire Dales provide miles of walking for all different abilities. Relatively unpopulated and with varied terrain, The county as a whole offers plenty of great cycle routes.

One of the best things about booking a cottage in Yorkshire, as opposed to a hotel, is that you can stay in a beautiful area that is off the beaten track. Wherever you go in Yorkshire, you will want somewhere comfortable to stay; somewhere you can rest your body after a fun-packed day. Self catering accommodation provides a relaxing environment where you have total independence.
