Using a Rental Car for a Driving Test

Can I use a rental car to take my drivers test?

My dad will rent the vehicle under his name and he will buy the extra collision insurance from the car rental company (in case I have an accident or fender bender). I just want to make sure that it would be ok for him to let me drive the rental car and just not tell the rental company. He thinks as long as he has insurance it should be fine.

When your dad gets the rental car, he will be asked if there will be any other drivers of the car.

Additional drivers are required to complete and sign an additional driver contract and must be 25 or over with a full, valid drivers license and credit card.

If he lies to the car rental company and allows you to drive without being an authorized additional driver, he will be violating the terms of the car rental contract; if anything happens to the vehicle his own insurance would not cover it, nor would any insurance that he might purchase with the rental. The insurances and coverages are only valid when all the terms and conditions of the rental are met.

Please tell your Dad that he should not do this; if you even had a minor fender bender, it would cost him a lot of money!
